I think it's more a case of new posters on the forum have a few restrictions at first. Spammers would use the signature to hawk their links, so it's something that isn't allowed at the get-go. It helps reduce the spamming opportunities for new arrivals.

I always thought that newcomers to TG couldn't have a signature for a while, but could always see other people's signatures. Perhaps they can't see the signatures of other TG members at first?

Anyone definitively know the situation?
