    Default More link woes

    I'm back to head banging.
I've spent about 6 hours on link problems.
The first one isn't a problem after all.
WD 6 appears to disable by default links that point to the current page.
    Other's weren't problems either.
In one case mouse overs weren't working because I haven't anything on the mouse over layer.
But the current problem is a problem I think.
    here is the web page.
    http://www.schroonlakegolfcourse.com/tournaments.htm
as noted above buttons which refer to the current page don't work.
so the tournament button is ok.
but the other three should work. they work on every other page.

I've tried everything I can think of.
Here are some of the things I've done with no effect.
Lets just take the rate button.
There is one group (rectangle and text) on the mouse off page.
And one group on the mouse over page.
There was no soft group to start.
I've checked the web properties of the group and text on both layers.
They all point to the rates page.
although initially they had different links.

Now when I move the button on layer 1 off away from the underneath button, it works.
Also the button on layer 2 shows in this case when I preview the page, which it shouldn't.

Also if I erase the button on layer 2, then the rates button on layer 1 works.

When I lift up the course and "other" buttons, the buttons on layer 2 are not visible underneath them on preview.

If I erase all the buttons on layer 1, then on layer 2, the buttons which don't work show up in preview, but not the buttons which work.

It seems to me that nothing on the mouseover layer should appear at all unless I hover over an object above it.

Finally I deconstructed and recontructed the rate button completely.
I made sure that the button on layer was a group.
    Then the same for two.
I then created a softgroup of the two.
I reentered the link on layer one.
And then checked the button and the text on all to make sure there was no contradictory links.

Then I've tried moving things forward.
I've tried moving things to the front.
    I've tried moving things backward.

I've tried deleting one of the buttons that doesn't work on layer two to see if it is somehow affecting the other.

    Nothing works

    Any suggestions.

Obviously I can get rid of the buttons on layer 2 and just forgo the mouse over effects.

But I would like to know what the heck is going on.

The only way to get this sorted is to attach your .web file for someone to look at.

The problem is no longer shown on the website.
I worked around the problem without figuring out what was causing it.
Just deleted all the buttons on the menu bar and replaced them via copy and paste of buttons on another page.

This fixed everything except it made the tournament button worse.
There was no text there at first until I erased the underlying button.
It doesn't work anyway as noted above.

As already suggested - attach your *.web file please.
Posting anecdotes is all very well, but if you are looking for some expert scrutiny and help you must post your *.web file so that problems can be identified.

Ok. I think I've got it uploaded.
I retraced my history after I fixed it.
And I've stripped out a lot of the graphics and a number of pages to reduce file size.
The problem page is the tournament page.

I took a peek at your Tournaments page, and noticed the following:
    • [The Course] Appears to work fine.
    • [Rates] Don't know why this won't work. I'd suggest that you borrow a working [Rates] button from another page.
    • [Calendar]
MouseOff element links to page may.
MouseOver element has no links to page, but instead is set to show popup layer coursemenu.
    • [Tournaments]
MouseOff element links to page tournaments.
MouseOver element has no links to page, but instead is set to show popup layer coursemenu.
    • [Leagues]
MouseOff element has no links, but instead is set to show popup layer leagues.
MouseOver element has no links to page, but instead is set to show popup layer coursemenu.
    • [Other]
      MouseOff element has no links.
MouseOver element has no links, but instead is set to show popup layer coursemenu.

Thanks for taking a look at that.

I had actually corrected all the things you point out - I think anyway.

They didn't work so I went ahead and basically did what you have suggested
re taking working buttons off other pages.
That worked for everything but the tournament button.
    Which got worse.
I solved that by deleting the underlying button on the mouseover layer.

In order to upload the file that showed the problems -
After I had fixed all the problems - I had to use the history button to go backward to the point where I had the problem.
And I think I went past the point where I had corrected the inconsistent labeling.

Anyway I have made the links consistent now and the problems buttons still don't work.
I would like to know what is causing this problem
if possible - since it is something that shouldn't happen.

However here is the conclusion I have drawn from this.

I think you have to understand and follow the basic rules here strictly.
When I think of the various ways you can combine and manipulate objects, It seems to me that there is an infinite number of combinations.
And that a number of those combinations just aren't going to work.
As you noted I somehow messed up the links.
So I had the button on one layer pointing to one page and the button on the other layer pointing someplace else.

In addition to that I was combining and uncombining groups in a very careless manner.
    Then copying and pasting buttons.
    Then using the repeating function.

So I suspect by the time I made the links consistent I had totally confused the program otherwise.
