rotated object/text as button or link

I'm trying to make a website with a certain design that requires text buttons at 45 degrees.

The problem is that when you rotate text or an object 45 degrees, the area of the clickable button is not the object itself, but a larger square in which the object just forms the diagonal. This makes links or buttons too big when placed close together.

Anyone found a way around this?

Welcome Rtruant, I dont think you can do it in html but you could do it using a swf and place that on your page using a placeholder. The other choice would be to use an image map and place that using a placeholder.

I agree, it should be possible in WD with html. A facility to draw images maps in a 'graphical web design' program is an odd exclusion. This is one area where WYSIWYG falls short.

Note that there IS an option in Web Properties for

clickable area (flash export only)
[ ] shape of object
[ ] rectangle surrounding object

why not make it applicablel to HTML as well?

Because unless your using image maps I believe html can only work with rectangles Curtis. But I'm very often wrong ;-)

A tool similar to how Dreamweaver works would be ideal.
