eliminating unused file formats save dialog

Is there any way to eliminate the odd ball file formats from the save and save as dialog boxes? I never use three fourths of the ones shown and it just slows me down to page through them all.

When was the last time anyone used targa or pcx anyway?

first question:
don't know - but shouldn't think so - may be a registry fix
but why bother to scroll when you can just type the extension after the name?

second question:
.tga - last week

okay typing in the file extension doesn't actually work - at least not on my photoshop
