Yes, very pretty. Now apply that to the challenge in this thread. Well, I did ask you before and it all went quiet so I'll tell you what - I'll apply it.

Very nice. But where did I get the inspiration to create that fill? My imagination? No, the bitmap. Where did Remi get the inspiration for his beer tap and the gold edging to that glass. His head? No, a bitmap. But, because Remi was right in that it could have been done with a fill and it makes it a true vector image without the bitmap, I have re-done the image with no bitmaps at all, pure vector.

    Hi Ross,

yes, it's the work of James Wyatt, the architect of Gaddesden Place. The rest of the drawing is a reproduction from an advertising of a german beer company. My goal was to recreate it as a vector graphic, but unfortunately the end result was just too close to the original photo, that I've never risked to publish it (I will ask the copyright owner for permission someday, but in the meantime I will post only these two excerpts).

It was planned as a contribution to the good old "transparent beer glass contest" from 2006. But I've never submitted it.

But you're right, that for more complex reflections within the chrome, the use of a bitmap would be a good idea.

    Remi

I also think that Nostaw's work is the best in this thread - looks like straight out of a high-end 3D renderer

This is the best thread for a while on this topic board. Thanks everyone for their input especially the "Repeating Tip" would not have made that connection.

It is excellent. I've downloaded the XAR file but I still don't understand the steps required to create that superb effect. I'd love to see a tutorial on it, if you have the time.
