thank you for your reply! I'm fairly inexperienced with ftp but, i'll give it a whirl. what I can't seem to get past is where and how do I load the pdf file?

ed, I think you've missed the point.
Linking to the PDF adds it into the Xara manifest. It is uploaded with your site when you publish.
The PDFs will sit in the index_htm_files folder, if you first publish page is named index.
The PDFs are saved in the Xara design file (.xar / .web).

And this is automatic, Ed. As Acorn says, once you link to the PDF, Xara will upload it to the link location when you publish your site.
