I think it is probably time for a Dear Xara...
The applications are extolled in http://www.xara.com/uk/designer-pro/features/ as "It's the world's most advanced WYSIWYG web page creator - and with no HTML skills required!"
Not 100% factual; Xara falls down with centring and fully justified text blocks.
We are having to cover too many fudges for the kludges.
POSSIBLE APPROACHES
- Detect centred or fully justified --> add HTMLBlockText to the text block automatically. Not WYSIWYG but has a decent explanation.
- Set the SPANs to the DIV width and adjust each SPAN's font sizing with CSS's letter-spacing. Not WYSIWYG but would be to within close pixel positioning. WebKit now supports sub-pixel letter-spacing: such an approach is used on tracked text in Xara applications where the end result uses letter-spacing.
- Any others?
