In LibreOffice: Import from file the SVG, file looks apparently fine
Then save document as ODT, close LibreOffice, Reopen ODT in Libreoffice, what was a SVG before is now a super jaggy raster file.

I checked the options/preferences in LO to see if I had missed anything obvious to no avail...

I don't think there is anything in the preferences that would do that.

I am not experiencing the behavior you describe. What was imported as an SVG into LO, saved, closed, reopened, remains a vector. I can even select the imported SVG and export it as an SVG and XDP opens it as vector.

Sounds to me like there is something amiss on your system. I would suggest posting on the LO forum.

Oh, make sure you are using the latest version as well. I have no idea what version you are using, but do check on their web site for what version is available versus what your version is.

I can only echo Mikes advice above. LO appears to both import svg's as vectors. You can select items & change attributes (colour etc) and export the finishe product as an svg which remains vector.

What does cause problems is Xara generated svg's. I've come across this before and one workaround is to edit the Xara generated svg in Notepad removing all the tags between the <defs></defs> tags prior to import into LO

One further thing I noticed with LO is it doesn't import Xara generated svg text unless it's first converted to editable shapes.

SVG has been around for years now & you'd think by now it would be standardised!

Was you attached svg created in Xara? I believe it was.

I'll try to do one of my bumbling videos

My experience in using XDP's svg in LO is that they do not need edited. The text survives the round trip as well.

That's interesting Mike. Can you attach a Xara generated svg please?

Sure. We can use the OP's for that. I did resave a version (Notion2.svg), import it into LO and exported it back out of LO (Notion3.svg). LO didn't change the embedded SVG.

I'm not getting the same as you Mike. Mine still has all these odd shapes and no text. Can't figure out whats going on at all here???

    Could you try this please:

Open the attached xar file in Xara.

Export it as a svg file.

Attach the svg on your return post.

And report how it opens in LO.

    Cheers, Egg

Had a bit of hot chocolate and cinnamon schnapps, hopefully this is what ya want!

Screen shot is from within LO after importing the XDP exported SVG file.
ZIP contains the XDP X9 exported SVG and the LO file.

    Hi thanks for that Mike.

I've played around some more and I believe I understand why we're getting different results.

If I drop your file egg_01.svg into an open Libre Text Document it imports as expected.

However if I drop the file onto the top bar of a Libre Text Document instead of being placed on the Text Document page it is opened in Libre Office DRAW Document with all the dogs dinner <def> features.

It does the same if I try to open it with Libre Office Writer, it opens in Libre Office DRAW.

If you resize everything down and spread them apart you can see they are the 8 arrows defined in the Xara svg <defs> tag. See attached.

I wonder if you can replicate this please?
