ScreenToaster: Free Online Screen Recorder

I came across this useful (and free) online screen recorder today.

I have tested the embedded script inside a XWD placeholder and it runs just like a YouTube video.
This could be used to produce your own onscreen tutorials, instructions and ads for your XWD site at no expense. Plenty of examples on the site.

This could also be a cheap and quick way to record your XWD video tutorials for us all to see?

Feedback, opinions and examples of your success would be welcome.

I have a quick play with it, seems to work well enough.
Though the (experimental) .swf conversion didn't play in any browser for me, buffering-buffering-buffering.........................

Note that changing the supplied code to use percent rather than pixels for the video playback size, will mean that your placeholder size will control the playback window size instead.

Very nice. That's just what I've been looking for (... at least it's one of the things ... )! Nice image in full screen mode, too.

It works like a charm Sledger.

This is a great way of creating and distributing short video tutorials on this forum, without having to publish them to the web.

I hope that other advanced XWD users begin using it to help we mere mortals.

Here are some very brief, overall instructions:

How can I record a screencast?

First, create an account. Log in and click on "Start recording".

1. Wait for the service to load.
2. The service may need some validations the first time ScreenToaster is executed on your computer (Firewall configuration, Java certificates...)
3. Configure your settings (fullscreen or rectangular area, audio and webcam settings...).
4. Go to the website/window you want to record.
5. Push ALT + S to immediately start recording or click on the "Record" button to start a 5 seconds timer before recording.
6. Push ALT + S to pause your video. Push ALT + S again to continue recording your video.
7. When finished, go back to the ScreenToaster page and click on "Stop recording".
8. You'll be automatically redirected to a preview of your video and to the edition tools.
