    that's a good example

need to carefully work out what segments you are going to break the arm and hand down to, and then start experimenting and building up complexity

consider using layers - you can quickly chop and change visually between alternatives that way - and build up the effect in stages..

    sorry z1nx - cross posted

if you are new to xtreme - check out the movies in the help section to learn the basics - lines and shapes has the relevant ones, but best to start with the introductory ones first.....

heck watch em all ! - you can do nothing but learn

You can slice the original shape into reasonable shapes and then reduce the nodes down to 4. The final shapes will most likely need adjusting about the nodes again.

Thanks salaam. Your example is perfect and in theory, it's exactly what I want. In practise, however, i'm not as successful; It comes up with this message"This shape is not suitable for use as an envelope mould. They must have 4 sides". When I try copying a simple shape. e.g. a circle, the message doesn't appear, and it works fine..But when I try making a polygonal shape, the message appears..Any idea why?

Does your polygon have 4 nodes?

To check; click on your shape. Then click on the [shape editor tool]. Now click on one of the nodes (one of the small black boxes on one of the shape 'corners'). Now that node should have a red outlined box in place of the black box. Now press the keyboards [tab] key 4 times. If you see 4 different nodes turn red, you have a perfect shape for a envelope.

    =/
I have more than 4; 7, in fact.
Do you think the error message meant I HAD to have 4, or you think it was, at LEAST 4?

You cannot create an envelope using a shape with more or less than 4 nodes, or to reword it and say no more or less than 4 sides.

Tony Roberts' guest tutorial on the XaraXone explains how to create envelopes for use in Xara X, X¹, and Xtreme (including the Pro versions).

    OK,

I should elaborate on how I did it:

    1)
-Take a picture of your arm
    -load it in Xtreme
    -Clone(ctrl+k)
    -Take the shapetool>outline the arm
    -Combine shapes>slice
    -delete the arm shape
-givethe remaining part "repel text under",1pix
-put in a textbox>type your text
-move textbox backward(so it's between the whole image and the cut out,You'll see the text flow inside the cutout)
    2)
Now select the textbox and convert to editable shapes
    -ungroup(twice)
-Now select every single word and group the single letters into one word groups
-add default envelope to every single grouped word (mold tool)
-bend each envelope to the flow of the hand

Of course after the placement of the text, you can delete the picture to make the hand only exists of words
