    Default Rabbit alone

Taken fairly late on an overcast evening. I think the lens was 400mm.

A lone rabbit. I thought that was a rarity in Australia.

I remember news reports about attempts to reduce the number of rabbits during the 1950s and 1960s.

Nah Bill, you're just not looking hard enough.
If you enhance Rupert's late afternoon photo a bit you can see the family

Bill, you are right, rabbits were seen in huge number. The rabbit numbers are now controlled. Note, photo included - rabbit exporter years ago, around the 70s.

We only ate the thighs Rupert, looks and tastes just like chicken thigh.
When my family from the UK visited, I cooked up rabbit thighs with roast spuds and veg, no-one knew it was rabbit until I confessed after desert. My sister was the only one who was upset by this as she had a rabbit as a pet back home

You have to be real careful with the skinning, the scent glands can spoil the flavour if you aren't.

I had a rabbit as a pet but I would still eat a rabbit someday. I never have, but I would. I guess it's because the wild rabbits/hares here eat all my plants....from hostas to strawberries to anything in my garden. It's amazing how they get into my garden with the fence I have around it.

Btw, the feral cats here would have your bunny dined on in a minute.

Rabbit curries very well. A popular tapa (a free snack served with your drink in local bars around here) is conejo en salasa picante - rabbit in a spicy sauce.
Tapa means lid and it is served on a saucer with a slice of crusty bread and placed on top of your drink to keep the flies from dropping in.
Tapas bars were becoming popular in the UK when I left, but unfortunately the snacks were far from free.
The Spanish solution to the rabbit population problem is, apparently, to make wahing-up liquid from them!

    Bob.

Steve, those rabbits sure multiply quickly

Rabbit and squirrel were common dinner and even breakfast meat when I was growing up. We ate legs and back, very little went to waste.

Ummm...fried squirrel with sawmill gravy and biscuits for breakfast was delicious!

I have a brother in central Utah who raises his own rabbits and chickens for his family's personal consumption.
