I can confirm what Derek says. The next version of Xtreme / Xtreme Pro / Magix Photo & Graphic Designer will have the same new look UI. Also the new web features & templates will go into the next Pro but not the classic version of Xtreme/Photo & Graphic Designer. Don't worry Derek, that wasn't confidential, it's mentioned in our site FAQs also.

I must say that I think that it is brilliant that Xara have allowed for first, middle and last buttons in the navigation bar tool. For an automated solution this allows for some impressive looking nav-bars.

Not being able to convert a quick shape to an editable shape in XWD made creating my end buttons somewhat more challenging (I had to use a different method than normal) but none the less fun.

I am ever so slightly disapointed that you can't change the button backgrounds on the sub-menus. I would have liked to add a simple linear fill on the backgrounds to give a raised/sunken look/impression. This is extremely minor however. An even better option would have been to allow the user to create a seperate button that the user could define as a sub-menu button; much like you can create a nav-bar from a button. Again, I think that this is a very minor thing. If I want fancy graphics for my sub-menus, I can still do things the old way.

    Wow John,

So the shortcuts from XX work, but the menu option isn't there. (I.e. Arange|Convert to Editable Shapes)

    That is interesting....confusing, but interesting.

    Not quite so.
The Ctrl+1 is a shortcut of the Arrange / Combine Shapes / Add Shapes.
If you have one object selected, the result of this operation is exactly the same as of the Convert to Editable Shapes.
That's an old trick form the WD5 release times, as WD5 don't have this feature either.

Oh I see. This is basically what I did to create the editable shape, but instead of using one shape, I used two. I created a rounded rectangle and a non-rounded rectangle and added them to create my buttons.

However, I tried what you suggested and it works perfectly. Create a quick shape and with it selected Press Ctrl+1 and it becomes an editable shape. Very nice.

    Thanks

    Hello Kate,

Thank you for the information. I anxiously look forward to release of XXPro6. In the mean time I have purchased WD6 for the bargain upgrade price of $29. This will give me the opportunity to learn the new web design features and UI and then when XXPro6 is released I can concentrate on the other new features.

Thank you all at Xara for your hard work and great products.

What a shame. I guess I'll have to spend more money for the Pro version (since I want the new web features).

Am I the only one to find this extremely (no pun intended) disappointing? While I have purchased menumaker and WD5 in the past, it seems perverse to have integrated WD functionality into XX5 but then exclude functionality that many would have wished to see in that release (menus etc) in only the upcoming Pro version. As an on and off casual user of these products for more years than I care to recall (I'm one of the faithful band who started with Impression and Artworks) and who has upgraded all along the line, I can't see the logic - get people on board in XX5 with web features then abandon them at the next release?! I already felt a little that I had already paid for some of the web stuff in XX5 given I had already puchased WD5 (and websytyle etc before that)

    Is it just me?
