Default Cannot drag and drop photos

    Hi

I just bought webdesigner which seems like a brilliant tool.

However, I cannot drag and drop to replace existing pictures. I've checked the video tutorial etc and it seems easy.

I go to file/open and then to my pictures in my documents. I then try to drag a photo or image (usually png or jpg) over to replace a picture in a web template but when it goes onto the xara web designer page I get a no entry sign.

Sorry if I'm doing something silly, but can anyone advise what I am doing wrong?

    Thanks

    Maddie

Without more information, I suggest first that you reboot your PC.

If that fails to help, please get back to us

    Hi

    Unfortunately rebooting didn't work.

What further information do you need?

    Thanks

The 'No Entry' symbol generally means that you have no permission to carry out that action. So something is blocking the drag'n'drop from Explorer action.

Which Operating System do you use?
Are you logged on as Administrator?
Which security suite (if any) do you use?

    Hi

I'm logged in as an administrator and am using Windows XP Pro, SP3. I'm using AVG version 8.5 (not the free one).

    Thanks

    Maddie.

There have been some reports of drag'n'drop not working after SP3 has been installed.
Sometimes resetting IE's security zone to defaults has fixed it, other times editing the Windows registry has been necessary.

Details of a registry edit that has worked for some is discussed at Tech-Tips

(WARNING: Usual caveats apply when editing the Windows registry.)

Other possibilities are you could have some malware infecting your system.

Do you have to hold down the Shift key when dropping the photo over another photo?

I just tried it and it worked without the Shift key.

Hi Maddie. Your problem does sound odd. How about supplying a single example of a .web file that exhibits this behavior.

    Thanks for your tips

With the thought that SP3 may have screwed up drag and drop, I tried dragging from my pictures file to the desktop. That worked and when I went back into Web Designer, I could then drag and drop without problems. I don't know why, but am very glad this seems to have enabled it.

    I appreciate your quick responses.

You don't use File / Open in WD to drag and drop photos.
You want to go thru Windows Explorer (Start Button) then locate your pics)
