    Default Shadow

Long time user of Xara, and am wanting to draw a white filled circle and have the shadow on the INSIDE instead outside the circle. See attachment

Not sure that can be done with one object, but you can:

    Create the circle,
    Set line color to transparent,
    Set fill color gray,
    Clone it,
    Set fill color white,
Apply feather to the white cloned circle.

    Hi David,

My eyesight isn't as good and it used to be so I'm not sure which technique would be similar to the one you have shown.

The .xar file is attached so you can take it apart to see how the inner shadows were created.

    Try this:
    1. Create the circle, set fill color to White
    2. Clone the circle, set the fill color on the clone to None
    3. Apply a glow shadow to the clone with the shadow tool, and adjust transparency/size/color to your liking
    4. Do Arrange->Convert to Editable Shapes on the clone, creating a group of 2 objects, the cloned circle and it's shadow.
    5. Ungroup it and delete the circle part, leaving only the shadow
    6. You're left with a glow shadow and the original circle. Select both the circle and the shadow and then do Arrange->Apply Clipview
It's important that the circle that you apply the shadow to have no fill, because if it does have a fill, the glow shadow won't go inside the circle.

The background circle that you use to apply the clipview can have the white background (or in your case, a bitmap fill of some leaves on a white background). This becomes the background for the clipview, and also controls the thickness of the line around the circle.

Attached is a crude sample showing a circle with a purple glow shadow inside on an ugly green background.

Inner glow shadows have been discussed copiously on these forums.

This is the best solution I could find a while back when this came up (see attachments), originally from here.
