"You don't ask, you don't get". Well, if you pay peanuts you get monkeys. Some of us make our living from design and I for one am more than willing to give generously of my time and experience to help out somebody needing some hints, tips or direction. But no corporate body is ever going to get a freebie out of me, a corporate body who will profit from my work without a thought for compensating me for my effort, and anybody who does that is in my eyes a fool. And do not for one moment think some of the professionals on this board have never done any charity work, that is not what we are talking about here.

If I have offended anybody, sorry, but that's my opinion.
If someone tried to make me dig my own grave I would say No.

    Frank,

    Bang on!

Basically a small company that stores anything from documents to cars and buses
"All hat and no knickers" type of business. They have wharehouse big enough to lose a double decker bus but want someone to create a logo free of charge, for the fun of it, the buzz, the acclaim...etc..etc..etc..

    Andy,

Could I suggest that when you are using a logo in a website that you create the logo at the size it will be veiwed at rather than have the browser resize the image. This way you will get a lot cleaner/crisper image.

Here we go again... people wanting to create logos, and people coming in to act disdainful.

Yes, I think people can take advantage of people's generousity sometimes. But ultimately, if someone wants to help another member, then that is their prerogative. We're all adults here. So please, no soap boxes in these threads. We know the score. Don't give them traffic if you really are so against them.
I'd start a revolution, if I could get up in the morning.

You don't think it's disdainful to say "My mate's company wants a logo for free" ?

I think it would be far less disdainful to say "My mate's company wants a logo but I'm afraid he has a total budget of just $50. If anybody wants to put their effort into the hat we would be most grateful to see what you could come up with and after one month we will choose the one we like the most and that person will get the $50." $50 is not a lot, but it's the principle of 'consideration' (legal term, nothing to do with being nice to somebody) that matters.

    This:

    a) is respectful to those of us who make our living in design
    b) gives a real chance to those beginners who want to have a go and an enormous buzz if they 'win'
    c) gives at least some real value to the design
    d) leaves everybody with a good feeling about the 'competition'
    e) prevents posts like this

Yup, and me objecting to it is my prerogative. I assume there's no rule that says I can't? Sorry if I sound cold and cynical but I have been around this 'Internet' thing since the era of the bbs and I am so very tired of people always asking for freebies.

Well, I work in construction and I could get mad of people
who help their friends installing things that are part of my job.
I won`t, I know that it is part of the deal in this world.

    b) gives a real chance to those beginners who want to have a go and an enormous buzz if they 'win'

I am not much of a competition man, I just like to play.

    c) gives at least some real value to the design

pride in a job isn`t enough any more?
Well, it isn`t, I know, even if they get payed for it, a lot
of my co-workers have none what so ever, unfortunately.
Neither do the bosses, it`s more about profits, not a job wel done.

    d) leaves everybody with a good feeling about the 'competition'

    Neah, I couldn't care less.

    e) prevents posts like this

Oh maybe in this forum, but on the newsgroup on internet
the same treatment befalls upon such competitions.

I am a free bee, and I like to stay as such.
I am tired of the money talk all the time.
But I know that is the way the world is constructed right now.
I want more free bee's, before the hive swallows us.
(and most won`t know what I mean here. It`s a symbolism thing.
that is on lot of buildings in my city and in B2B.
    beehive=industry, winged wheel = transport, caduceus=trade)
Just look around you how much this symbolism is used.

Jason allow me just a small tip: You´ve used unpact font in your design. Probably most of the users here don´t have it installed and aren´t able to view the logo correctly (the same hapened with your other post (Verve) where you used Borealis font). When posting xar files make sure you convert your text objects to shapes first. This way we can all see your design even without the font you used installed on our systems.
You can do this selecting the text object and then Arranje -> Convert to Editable Shapes from the menu. Note that after the conversion your text will NOT be editable anymore.

Another (easier - unless you really want to share the Xar file) solution is just exporting your file as jpeg or png (without needed to do any conversion and keeping the text editable). Xara will render the bitmap exactly as you see on screen.
