I used the Mode in PE to reduce the colors to 32. Made a MS PAL, and read it into XPal. Saved the file in EPS. Opened the EPS in XX. The top row is all red. Hue=0 Saturation=0 The variation is in Value only. Bottom row is the green HUE=120. If you run the XX color probe over the squares, you can see the change in RGB as you traverse the row. Constant Hue but varies in Saturation and Value. Note the R and B numbers. Rich

Klaus: Thanks, I was trying to find an animated method to show the illusion.
Rich: Interesting figures. If you look at my xar file you will see that the 3 colours in the colour gallery have constant Hue and Saturation but the Value alters.

quote:
I loaded the image into Paint Shop Pro and sure enough, I get RGB values for both squares of R107,G107 and B107.

    Why?

You could have used the Color Picker in the Color Editor (Ctrl e) to sample the colors.

By golly Gary, you are right!

You will notice from the small number of posts I've made on this forum (just 5), that I am in no way a XARAX power-user. I've worked my way through a number of your excellent Tut's, but in no way do I use all the Xara functions available. So I rarely touch the colour picker. Anyway just tried using it and you are correct. There was no need to fire up PSP at all. I'll know next time.

    Thanx

When the numbers are equal for R, G & B, you have grey scale. When two are the same and one is slightly different, you get a desaturated color. This is the way I interpret the the numbers. Rich
