    Hi,

In following up with the DTP thread I am interested in checking this out a bit further.

I have both ThinkFree (a program that can create NATIVE Word files, including spreadsheets) and I have WordPerfect 2000 (version 9 in actuality) that came with Quattro Pro a spreadsheet program.

I am interested in figureing out which program will have an output that Xara can read and import.

Any chance here with that one??

Also, I am interested in knowing if Xara is capable of creating a 'table' that would be recognized as such once exported as HTML for the web.

    Thanks much!!

I was thinking along the same lines and did some experimenting. I copied a column of text from Exel into XaraX. When you do the "paste" it gives you some options. Unformated text and Windows Metafile both work if you want to edit the content. The WMF will have to be ungrouped first.
Just play around with import feature and see if anything works for you.

i did that too, so when you copy selected part from a spreadsheet to clipboard, and try to paste it into xara, 4 options will be offered to you...

to the presentation application, and save in WMF. Then open the WMF in XX. I would not use the clipboard. This wold be similar to MS applications and saving to WMF in Power Point. Some times ungrouping in Power Point and then saving works. I would most likely make charts in AS, and then save in WMF. The text remains editable. Rich

Sometimes text, when imported or pasted, is done so as "column text".

In some cases this is not desireable. You can convert it to "simple text", however.

Click-n-drag the text tool across the "column text", press CTRL+X, click the text tool once, and then press CTRL+V. This is will produce a line(s) of "simple" text which you can insert a hard line-feed by repositioning the text cursor between two words and pressing the [Enter] key.

    ************

Similarly, you can convert "simple" text into "column" text. After cutting the "simple" text, however, you would click-n-drag, then press CTRL+V. You may want to eliminate any hard line-feeds to enable the text to flow freely.

I guess I was looking for a way to import a working chart. As in, if I type text into it then as I type withing the alloted space it would expand to meet the needs of the words.

    Guess not, huh? http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

What I saw when importing table data was a series of boxes with the text in the box. You could edit the text, but the box size was fixed. I made a series of double rectangles in XX. An outer rectangle to duplicate as the table cell, and an inner box to control the alignment. Once I set the alignment, I turned the line off for the inner box. I had placed generic text in the box prior to duplicating. It would require the boxes to be large enough to hold the text, or maybe stretch the boxes if the text didn't fit. Rich
