Jen or anyone.

I have a bit of a problem that I would like to shortcut the search for an answer so am putting this out to anyone who may have the quick solution.

I have a site at (http://falcon.unibase.com/). The images are made up of many images seamlessly put together within frames and overlapping into the next frame. If you look at the site in IE, it looks seamless.

In Netscape, you will see that the "L" on the word falcon is sort of non-existant. It was drawn to my attention when a reader wrote to say I had "misspelled" the word "falcon". In IE, no problem. It's seamless and visible.

So, any ideas, anyone?? I spent a half hour this AM looking for the problem and am getting sick of that image.

Hi Annette ...

Okay. The problem is with Netscape (duh!) and how it determines frame size. Instead of using absolute numbers it does a calculation based on percentage of space.

When I tried a test of your framesets, putting that first 212 column to 215, gave it enough space. Of course, then, it doesn't work in IE.

So. As a general course, don't get too specific when using frames and anything that requires fine tuning (like words) should reamain within the same frameset.

Specifically, I would make the top portion one frame - this would not give you a full scroll on the right side, but better that than not being able to get your title aligned. Try and move "Regina" up, so that it fits in the top frame as well.

You have other problems in Netscape with the background in menu.htm - "scroll" isn't supported.

If you have any other questions, just shoot!

Thanks for replying, Jen. I found the answer today in the Web Design Group's web authoring FAQ at :
http://www.htmlhelp.com/faq/html/frames.html#frame-size.

Thanks for the suggestions. There were many challanges in this design, and think I will leave well enough alone this time. The images are actually made up of GIFs and JPGs sliced and combined. I needed that for load time and lossiness. I realized that Netscape had the background on the Menu repeating, but since the tracker indicates that most readers are using IE, I decided it was forgivable as readers could still read through the background.

The site is one that I do for free. That means that I do what I can when I have time. :-) I already spent a lot of time on it as I wanted to use the slicing feature in Xara rather than the Photo Paint method I had been using. Twas slick, and I learned a lot about this new feature in Xara doing it.

I appreciate your time, Jen. Nice to have a resource to bounce things off of, and get some advice.

Thanks again.
