    thanks in advance,

Hello Max and welcome to the Xara X Conference.

This question comes up a lot. If you do a search for antialiased text you should be able to see several threads.

There are some bitmap fonts on the Xara Xone Shareware Page that you can download and use in Xara in Normal view quality mode.

    This might solve your problem.

    Here is an idea...

Create a bitmap copy of your unaliased text and throw it in with your anti-aliased text. see example...

Hehe.. I don't thinks so John... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif I think what Max means is like using pixelfonts in his Xara layout. Does it Max?

I understand that the guy is saying because sometimes for web sites you want just the text of pixel fonts (if you go to www.dafont.com and look at the bitmap fonts you'll see what I mean) - to be honest with you mate I don't use xara for creating those types of graphics - it's not very good for creating none-anti-aliased stuff. No control at all. In fact I even find myself having to export images with text on sometimes to PhotoShop to sharpern them up. And for pixel fonts grpics I use Photoshop straight.

Xara is a great illustration package but crapola when it comes to exporting text! Blurybluryblury-where are my goddamned glasses!

Yeah, this issue is ONE of the reasons I find XX impossible to use for web/UI work. Simply impossible. Another BIG reason why XX sucks for web work is the slicing-method - which I find totally incomprehensible and awkward as hell to use. So when I need XX graphics for web I export as the whole piece as TIF, PNG, whatever and place it in Photoshop for slicing and export.

And that completes today's griping over my otherwise (mostly) beloved XX. :-)

I only do graphic buttons when the client specifically asks for them. CSS is so much nicer. If your type is so small you need unaliased fonts to create it, then you must be working for a lawyer. Fonts smaller than 8 pixels are hard to read to begin with and should not be on a web site.

Xara is great for slicing and dicing if you know what you are doing. The automatic slice-0-matic built into xara is a waste of time. Rotten slicing and you can only have gif or jpg and not both as far as I can tell. Only played with it once or twice.

I use xara exclusively for my web graphics and would not even think of using anything else.

So... we have 2 different opinions on using xara for web work. I would say Klaus you have not really tried to use xara, if you think it is bad for the web...
