HELP. My thumbnails are gone!

I have no clue as to why two days ago, all my Xara Designer thumbnails have turned to the generic purple "X", shown in my attachment.

One thing: I installed a small program to force Adobe products to show thumbnails. PDFs, AIs, and PSDs haven't shown in years.


Anyhow, any advice or similar things happening to anyone?

I think there must be a setting somewhere in saving files, maybe in settings.

you can try this:

On the Start Menu, type Disk Cleanup and press enter > Select your C: Drive > Check only Thumbnails and press OK , when prompted, select delete files.

This process with clear the thumbnail cache resetting the thumbnail images

and to make sure, you shoiuld check that thumbnails are enabled in file explorer [windows 10 - I do not know if this has changed in windows 11]

But no joy. Oddly,. PSD, PDF, a host of icons are thumbnails, but Xara won't budge. I have previous versions installed and am off to see whether they're still that program icon.

I might also try reinstalling the program.

It's a real, almost show-stopping annoyance, but not critical to the program working.

In any event, thanks for the reply. I'm using windows 10, because Microsoft says my machine isn't good enough for version 11.

My go-to approach is not to rely on Windows as it is very chuggy and throws hissy-fits like this all to often.

Instead, I use Everything, https://www.voidtools.com, and toggle from Details (Ctrl+Shift+6) to Thumbnails (Ctrl+Shift+1 / +2 / +3).
All blisteringly fast.

Ideal for viewing local cache XAR templates and components.

My thumbnails also have gone AWOL ... Not recently, I hasten to add ... Probably 18 months ago, and nothing I've done - re-registering DLL's etc. has recovered them.

Typically I drag XAR's into my workspace from Zoner Photo Studio (I have an old perpetual licence), that works well for me, so not a deal breaker.

I'll be.....! Never knew that option existed in Everything and I use the app every day!

For thumbnail views, I use Mystic Thumbs as it's continuously expanded and includes many file formats.
