Excellent Marcelo! May I ask how you achieved the look of 'stubble' on his face? It adds a great amount of realism to the image.

Here is the final version. I've made some modifications on the head and the result seems to be good. Thank you for the commentaries and hints. This was important for the improvement of the work.
Some minutes ago I received an email where the co-editor of the brazilian magazine Digital Designer asked me to send him the image in hi-res to be published in the galery next edition.
    The magazine's website is www.digitaldesigner.com.br

The effect used to create the beard was quite simple: I used two concentric cicles and the external one has a shadow. I converted the group to a bitmap and I applied a transparency. The result is shown below.
    Thank you all.

    Sorry Marcelo,

I must've missed something somewhere, because I am still lost on the beard.

Looks intriguing but like John I can't quite understand how you did it.

    Excellent work.

Marcelo, do you create a brush with the bitmap transparency?

I did not create a brush. I dupicated the bitmap manualy. Such an idea did not occur to me.

    Marcelo,

Thank you for the explanation. Working manually takes longer, but I think it gives a better look to the beard. With a brush the bitmaps would tend to become a repeating pattern.
