I wonder if you accidentally created a default fill or transparency.
Easy enough to tell. Close Xara and restart and see if the same thing happens.

The setting is probably Utilities > Options > General > General Options > Give new objects most recent attributes.
Otherwise go to the Fill tool and set back to Flat Fill.
Ditto Transparency Tool, set to None.

I am not convinced this is a xara app:
this does not sound like xara - which fills automatically if the shape is closed, and does not fill at all if the shape is openWhen I draw a line and close it to form a shape and then try to fill it with a color
still, if it is xara then I agree not appreciating what the implications of 'give new objects most recent attributes' are might be confusing, especially with the examples gary gave

I am using Xara Extreme. Closing the program and re-opening does not have any effect on the problem.
I think I attached an example, but not certain because I can't actually see it here.
Rhonwe what version are you using?
How are you closing the shape?
Usually when a shape is closed in Xara it shows a black shape which the color can be changed, a fill applied, or various operations carried out.

Never give up. You will never fail, but you may find a lot of ways that don't work.
Rhone your image appears to have a linear transparency so remove the transparency and set the fill to flat.

also remove the line if you prefer.

yes I agree with Larry that's a linear fill
do what acorn suggested - untick Give new objects most recent attributes. and set fill to flat fill and transparency to none
that will give you manual control over the fill [and other] attributes

I am using Version 2.0e Dec 1 2005. Fill is set to flat fill, and transparency to none. Ive tried with Give new objects most recent attributes ticked and unticked, same thing happens either way. If I open a new file and use the shape editor to make a circular or odd shaped object, such as the previous attached file, everything works OK, and I can copy it to the file I'm working on and it remains OK, but I cannot seem to consistently completely fill the object directly in the file that I'm working on.
