I have a rudimentary,very wide line art from the modification of a photograph. I want to select the line art and modify the width of the lines with the idea of creating a nice line art.

How can I select the lines and make them look thinner? Decrease the width (maybe 1 or 2 pixels)?

There may be no graceful way to decrease the line width in a pixel based file when dealing with line art.

But a suggestion:
Select the line art, or certain areas of it
Select menu > Modify > Contact
Set amount to contract. OK
Inverse selection and Clear.
