I am a bit late to the party.. but if this photo was scanned, turn it 45° and then re-scan it.
That's how I remove stripes and dots from newspaper/magazine photos.

That's interesting Joelle. Not having an original photo that recreates this Striations issue it's not easy to replicate. Could you explain in greater detail please. I have tried experimenting & I can see a definite improvement but my scanners not up to much.

I often scan photos from a newspaper (usually recipes - then make my own version).
Straight scanning will show the dots, if I scan the picture at a 45 degree angle, there is much less of those dot/stripes :-)
I use a Canon MG7150 all-in-one printer and scan into PaintShop Pro
It's not a cure-all but an improvement, the rest is up to the image editor.
I don't edit photos in Xara very often, PSP is a lot easier.

Thanks for the info, Joelle.

I have PSP X8, and I must be missing something fundamental. I find it much harder to use than Xara. Maybe I have a different mindset, I find Xara intuitive, and PSP almost impossible to figure out what I'm supposed to do. So much so that I've almost completely given up on it.
