New objects added to MouseOver Layer - EVERY TIME!!!!

Hi,

I'm suffering from the MOST INFURIATING bug! Every time I add a new object to a web page, it puts it on the MouseOver layer EVERY TIME!!

Can anyone PLEASE tell me why? It's seriously driving me nuts now.

Even if I have a placeholder in the MouseOff layer and I want to update the HTML, I simply right click, and Paste Replacing Selection - and it works, but guess what - it ends up in the MouseOver layer! AArrrggghh!

If I want to copy an object, the newly-pasted copy is now in the MouseOver layer - WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How can I stop the MouseOver layer being the default layer for every bloody object I put on my website?!

Is the MouseOver layer selected by any chance? That would be the most obvious explanation.

Actually, no it isn't. No layer appears to be selected.

Can you attach a screen grab of your Page & Layer Gallery?

Could it be a GNOMRA (Give New Objects Most Recent Attributes) issue? Try unchecking in the GENERAL tab of the Options Panel, and retest.

Open the Page & Layer gallery and click the layer button.
Ensure the MouseOver Layer is hidden (closed red eye icon).
Click on the MouseOff Layer so a blue band shows and a blue arrow is points to 10 o'clock.
Ensure the MouseOff layer does not have a red padlock. If so, click it open.

For a Placeholder you would never Paste replacing selection.
You click it open on the body or head button.
Paste here and click the OK button and then the Apply or OK button for its Web Properties.

Does this happen with a fresh file?
If not, you have a corrupted design file to unpick.

Hi Ian,

The problem is that when you open a page in the Page & Layers Gallery it opens to whatever layer was last active for that page. So if you're viewing page1 with the Mouse Off layer active, moving to page2 doesn't automatically make Mouse Off layer the active layer.

So you need to select the the layer you wish to add the new content too. If that layer has either the viewable or editable icons turned off you get the warning. If they are both viewable & editable there's no warning.

Thanks for that. Much appreciated.

The thing is, I've been using Xara Web Designer on a regular basis since version 7, and never experienced this problem before until 365.

I often work with the MouseOver layer unlocked and visible, and yet new objects always ended up on the MouseOff layer in the past.

I'm quite convinced that the 'last layer used per page' is not working for me. I'll keep trying to replicate the issue.
