Tell that to Xara. Tell Xara to update its AI/EPS files to better handle effects when exporting.

Otherwise, both ID and Q handle most all PDFs exported from XDP just fine. But they are never going to handle XAR files directly. I use XDP to make assets from XDP quite frequently for both applications.

The v10 release of the non-Pro version of Xara Xtreme is on eBay from Xara Group at £14.99 at the moment: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121909608759

If it's not worth £15 to him, he doesn't really want to edit anything!

It really isn't about price, it is about preserving the highest functionality across two separate Xara products - XDPX11 & XWD11P fit this the best.

It's not worth £219 to him, and he's looking for alternatives to buying the £49 program so it probably is to do with price. There's not much difference in any recent version for "fairly simple static diagrams" so £15 for a non-pro one-version-old new licence direct from Xara is likely as good a fit as can be.

What I was getting at is a great design in XDPX10 ported into a much earlier version will lose some of the recent features and reworking this reduced functionality in the earlier product will import fine back into XDPX10. It makes sense for the OP to upgrade his to XDPX11 (cost to him) and to purchase XWD11P (cost to customer). The overall cost is totally offset by having no tweaking by either party, iteration upon iteration.
