Default Create outlined profiles from group photo

    Hi,

I guess you all have seen group photos with an attached outlined graphic showing who is who?

Now I have a photo with approx 100 persons and I need to create that kind of graphic, where each person is shown as an outline with a number.

Does anyone know how to do this?

    Thanks!

    Olle,

I have always just traced around the people by hand using the pen tool to create an outline silhouette and then made the key. Doesn't take to long as the outline only needs to be reasonably representative. Largest group photo I have done has been around 70 persons, taking me less than an hour.

You may be able to speed that up just a little by making the group into a B/W silhouette without background information, then tracing that and adding in the lines to distinguish one body from another. But I don't think it would be worth the effort.

Olle, always difficult to check without an example.
If the people are separate from the background, you could just set the Photo Contrast to -100 on a copy.

If that works, make a bitmap copy.
Then, if you have XDPX11, use the Bitmap Tracer...

The result is a set of vector shapes that you can further manipulate.

    Thanks for your replies.

I guess the solution will be to print the image and then place a transparent plastic sheet over the print and manually draw the outlines. Then, make a scan and a trace. The image contains over 100 officers in uniforms, so a bitmap trace results in close to half a million nodes.

Anyway, thank you for taking your time trying to help me.

Why not just use the photograph, without any outline?

The green rectangle is the only active area in this demo.

I know Flash is dead but here's an html version.

For 100 people you'd require a larger image, but I think this shows what's possible.

That's a really nice approach, Egg! Did you make the .swf in Xara and then have it converted into .html?

Thanks Boy. Yes the swf was produced in Xara then converted to html5 via Google Swiffy.
