Edit inside

I've recently upgraded to Xara Designer Pro X10 from version 5.
Is there any way to switch off 'Edit Inside'? I much preferred the older way of doing things - just double clicking on the shape tool.

yes there is a registry key - and it may be that you can do it with the XaReg utility without registry editing directly

but if you need to edit the registry, the key is:

DisableDefaultDoubleClick

and should be re-set to value 1

it is in

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Xara/XtremePro/8.1/Options/Editinside

[8.1 is for version 8, that will be different for your version]

back up registry before changing if you use regedit

To be honest I'd recommend that you try using the edit inside feature for a while before you make up your mind. I've come to use it very often and now wouldn't want to be without it. you can edit your groups so much more freely in an edit inside window. In the edit inside window you can add new items delete items move them up and down in the layer stack and a very handy feature is the fact that you can copy and paste or drop or drag objects from an edit inside window back into the main document or any other documents you may have open including other edit inside windows!

you can do all that from the layer gallery and, most importantly, still see all the rest of your document in context

This is all a matter of personal preference.
If you don't like it, then you should have an option to disable it - that is the mark of good software.

However, I tend to agree with Frances.
I also disliked it, when I first came across this feature.
Now, I don't give it a second thought.

But, Steve has given you a way of disabling it.

Thanks very much everyone. I'm prepared to give it another try, but at the moment it's more of an irritation than a help.
Knowing I can switch it off is great, so kudos to handrawn for that.

If editing the registry isn't your thing, this setting and more can be changed using XaReg.
