Your observations are correct, if you create a brush from an object with a gradient fill then only the first colour of the fill is replaced when you select a different line colour.

The reason for this is that once a brush is entered into the document there is no way to select individual fills so you can choose which one to replace, therefore we decided to always replace the first one. The alternative would be to replace all the colours, which would leave you with a flat fill.

I think this can give you some good results, although we could probably have made it a bit clearer.

Otherwise we're all totally impressed with the brushes you are making, keep it up!
