    Default New Monitor

I want to replace my two 18" CRT monitors with one 29" LCD Dell Ultrasharp U2913WM. It has screen management software allowing you to split up the screen into two, giving you two virtual monitors without a bezel in the middle. That's great for multitasking or undocking all the toolbars. There are some very positive reviews but I was wondering if any of the members here on TG have experience with this monitor.

I find it difficult to judge such matters objectively.

I chose http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...rch_detailpage, AOC Q2770Pqu 27 inch Widescreen S-PLS LED Multimedia Monitor (2560x1440, 5ms, VGA, DVI-D, HDMI, USB 3.0, USB 2.0), in the end as it was not ultra high resolution but it fitted in the space and was relatively cheaper.

I tried the screen splitter utility (up to four separate areas that could be adjusted) for less than a day. In the end I refitted a 21" monitor and kept two screens.
They have different resolutions so i am able to use Windows+Arrow keys to move things around and gain a quick "magnification" effect.

I should have asked people to share their experiences with wide monitors to replace (or create a virtual) two-monitor setup rather than focus too much on the brand and specific size.

Acorn, what made you stop using the splitter utility? Are you still using the 27" monitor next to the 21" or did you exchange it for another one? Interesting idea using one monitor as a magnifier.

Could you say something about high-definition vs. ultra HD?

I found using the Windows Key + Arrows much more intuitive.
I'm very happy with the differing resolutions, to the extent that I would decline a second 27" monitor (for now).
When i use my Xara apps, i float the toolbars onto the smaller monitor and get a larger view of them.

Thanks for the feedback, Acorn. Anyone else care to share their experiences with 27" or 29" inch monitors?

I decided to buy the 29" LCD Dell Ultrasharp U2913WM and I am very happy with it. The picture is bright and clear and I really like the 'real estate' that comes with such a wide screen. I can use the whole screen for Designer or have Word, Chrome and Explorer open at the same time. To give you an idea, I attached a few screenshots.

It looks really great. The picture is very clear. You make me think to buy a new monitor too.
