Smooth point VS Sharp point............

Hi all,

Xara X1 keeps defaulting to the Smooth point when creating new points in a line or shape and it's driving me batty!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/mad.gif

I RARELY use the Smooth points. In fact the only time I use this feature is when I need to smooth an area that really needs it. Other than that I always use Sharp points all the time.

So I am drawing away and need a new point added and add it, then without thinking start to drag it to where it needs to be, forgetting that the stupid thing has been created with a Smooth point by default and my line goes all wobbley. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/eek.gif Is there a way in Xara X1 to set set the default point to being a Sharp point instead of each new point being created with Smooth point??

Ummm Richard,

I am not sure if I understand your problem. But from what you have written, You just need to set the default line shape.

with nothing selected, select the shape editor tool. The shape editor infobar shhould pop up. Select how you want the line to look by pressing the proper buttons (sharp or smooth). The stupid little dialog that always pops up asking if you want to make this the default setting, then say ummm.... yes...

Hi Richard,

Check this Registry Key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Xara\XaraX1\Options\Sha peEditorTool

Change the CreateCusp to a value of 1.

EDIT: Sorry Richard, that setting works for the initial points. If a new point it created on a curved portion of the shape, it defaults to the Smooth join.

Hi Richard,

Did you know you can have part of a line sharp and part smooth? Just change the settings while you are drawing your shape.

If you drag the center point of a sharp line and then add a point that point is now smooth.

By default, I use sharp points, and then drag the line where I need it.

That setting is saved with your templates. You want sharp points, set your line and save as default, just as Christine told you.
