And, if there are words in the image, then I think we tend to read those first (or very quickly). Even if the words are in a foreign language.

Interesting thoughts, Rik. In both versions of the images I saw people first. I wonder if maybe, since researchers have said we are hardwired from birth to focus on faces and we recognize these shapes even in other objects, that this attribute could contribute to seeing people in those images first....
