Error code 46 on launch - Designer Pro X10

Already posted a ticket today but very grateful for any additional clues.

Have purchased X10 and downloaded 32bit setup file, but cannot complete the install. The program tries to auto-launch towards end of installation and fails every time with message "Error code: -46". Screen shot attached.

(There is no problem with the destination folder and plenty of space on the disk).



After install completes, the same error throws every time I try to launch the program. Several uninstalls / re-installs - fails every time.

I rather stupidly purchased the upgrade before downloading the trial <G> but have always upgraded Xara with each new version and have not come across this kind of problem before.

The machine is 32 bit XP SP2. Could this be the problem do you think?

could be that it need SP3, but XP is apparently ok

how about the processor?

the requirement is:

Intel® Celeron® or newer, or AMD® Sempron® or newer

and if you are running an old computer you may have an older model

And then reinstall as normal? Does that work?

Hmmm... thanks handrawn.
Wouldn't have thought that CPU was an issue really. Processor is AMD Athlon at ~ 2GHz.

Maybe it doesn't like SP2. X9 of course was just fine.

Appreciate the though Rob-Xar but sadly no. The MS Fix it tool will NOT run under XP Service Pack 2.

if ver 9 ran ok then it's unlikely the processor I would have thought - but Rob would know that for sure, I was just kicking round possibilities

Yea, it would of moaned straight away if it was the processor. Error code 46 is a uncommon one. I forgot MS stopped supporting XP, such good memories of that OS.

Have you got any anti-virus suites or security programs installed? Can you uninstall V10, disable them, re-install and then re-enable?

Yes, thats the way I did the install each time (disabled Avast AV first).

This is a work pc, so will have another go tomorrow.

Xara support have replied to my ticket now and asked to see a copy of the install log files. Have sent that a few hours ago but no joy yet. Really wish they still did telephone support!

X9 is still running perfectly happily on the same machine. Guess in my enthusiasm to get the new upgrade I should have downloaded and trialled before ponying up the cash first. After all these years didn't expect this kind of problem though .
