I did this for the Challenge forum to create an eye, but since I used only Xara Extreme to draw this I thought I'd post it also to this forum.

Looks credible to me. A small highlight over the iris/pupil would give it a final bit of photorealism.

Thanks Gary! Okay here's the updated one...

Both nice but I do not see the difference.

Very nice work, good detail. Simple highlight makes a vast difference.
Incredible Maya! Can you share how you did the iris?

Never give up. You will never fail, but you may find a lot of ways that don't work.
Thanks so much for giving this a look and reply/views everyone!
I think I like the eye with the extra subtle highlight at the pupil best, as suggested by Gary to try. It's a tiny change, but looks to me to bring a bit more of a 3D effect to the roundness of the eye at the cornea surface.
Ron, the way I approached doing the iris coloring was to start with a circle feathered to soften the outside edge in a grayed greenish-blue then overlayed this with a lighter cloned circle in a more yellowish green and made smaller around the pupil area. I used feathering and transparency colors a lot to get the basic iris then drew a rather random sawtooth small square shape in the lighter and darker colors which I added flat transparencies and color changes to along with adjustments in rotation and size/shaping to create the striations in the iris around it. I took the pupil and cloned it transparent just to get the line ring and color it for a bit of depth to the pupil. The other highlight shapes are just flat transparencies with more crisp edges for shine effect and overlaying eyelashes for more reflectance. I think that about covers what I did. A few other greyed shadings/shadows around on the white of the eye were extended into the colored edges also. I hope that helps.

Maya this eye is something amazing in vector, like it very much. So clean, deep, it is beautiful.
+1 for putting to Xara Outsider
