It's finally arrived - you can now download the 15 day trial of the release version of Xara X.

It's going to be several weeks before we run the CD and so we'll continue to make improvements, in particular we want to do some more work in the export dialog (the bitmap size tab is still greyed out for create bitmap copy). So if you find anything, all reports are still welcome - not that we're expecting any problems of course!

    Have fun.

On behalf of the members of the XaraXone and fellow Xealots, I hope to be the first to congratulate you and your fine team for giving us such a fabulous tool. It was well worth the wait.

Kongrats to Kate and the rest!!! I agree with Gary et.al.: it's time to show the world what Xara X can do!

As for me, I shall of course perform my standard way of showing love - and crassly inform you of all the things you have done so abysmally bad!

    ;-)

What you are saying Kate is that this is another beta, but this time we get to pay and (hopefully) a version of XaraX that works properly will arrive on a CD in a few weeks time.

This is not good business and can only damage XaraX's prospects of achieving its true place in the software market. Either the commercial version of XaraX is ready or it is not. It patently is not ready. For example, try drawing text on a curve and then change the shape of the line. The text stays where it is! Silly problems like this do not inspire confidence in the rest of the product, no matter how good it really is.

I have paid for this beta and am prepared to wait for the FINAL final version of XaraX to arrive. However, I could not recommend this product, at its current stage of development, to anyone else.

    Tom,

Text on a curve works fine for me...the text does follow the change in the curve. Is it possible you converted it to editable shapes before you changed the curve?

I think Xara has developed a great release!

No I'm not really saying that. We ARE happy that this is release standard, but the CDs will not be run for a few weeks and any improvements we make in that time will be incorporated in the CD version (for example I think we might add some keyboard shortcuts and we certainly intend to streamline the export dialog code). If there are problems reported then we will fix them. And there always are problems, even in release software - less in ours I hope than in most.

Tom is right, if you edit the curve the text moves off-line, although if you then continue typing it returns to the correct position. The problem has been identified and fixed in our internal build.
