Default Cutting a piece out of a text/image in Xtreme

    Hi guys,

Hope you can help me with this.

I am trying to cut a piece of the enclosed text/image. It is an h and I want to simply cut the the curly part of the h at the end so I can attach it to the end of another text f, but with me using a rectangle and the Clipview technique to do this I am getting a larger space for the entire image so when I attempt to change the colour the whole rectangle's colour changes.

Any help or advice as to how I can simply trim the end/curly side of the h without getting rid of the png style effect?

    Thanks

hh.webI am assuming all you have is a PNG and not a font. If it was a font you probably could convert the 'h' to editable shape and edit away.

Instead, I simply locked the bitmap in place and traced around it with the Freehand and Brush Tool.
I then set a transparency so I could see how bad I was and then using the Shape tool, I altered the bezier points and added more where I could not adjust the shapes enough.

    The result is: hh.web.

As it is a shape, you can cut out parts, realign bits and recolour.

What surprised me was the Bitmap Tracer in XDPX, my first choice failed, and I don't know why.

    in later versions its easy
you cut out the offending part of the image
then change the dark contone colour from black to whatever you want
don't know if xtreme had dark and light contone colours

Thanks Acorn, yes I can convert to shape, but I also want to cut out the curly part of the h.... Can you think of a way for me to do this? But I want to use both piece, the original (left over h) as well as the curly piece cut out, but I still want them to png (can't think of the right term/word for this at the moment) type shapes, like the one you attached but cut into 2 pieces with the same effect and able to colour each piece accordingly.

Thanks Big Frank, so basically there is no way for me to be able to snip off the bottom curl of the h in my current Xtreme 5 version without loosing the png effect?

yes, download one of the later trial 30-day versions
do what you need to do to it, slice & dice etc
    export your pngs
drop them into your xtreme5 doc

I must be missing something here because I tried it in Xtreme 5 standard and it worked. Granted I did not have the same font installed but I can't see that would make any difference.

Thanks Frank. Regardless it still appeared to work as expected.

    i don't understand larry
what difference does it make to an imported png if you convert to editable shapes and then slice?
i don't have xtreme5 on this machine so couldn't test this
