Error message at start up Designer pro X

Hello,

Just got my Designer pro X CD in the mail, installed but Xara won't start I get an error message at start up.

" This application requires CPU support for SSE2 but this CPU dose not support it. "

I am on Windows XP, AMD XP 2800, 2GB Ram.

Any help would be much appreciated, Pro 7 is running fine.

Hi Peter, welcome to TalkGraphics.

I got that message trying to install on my old XP Machines. As the message states Designer Pro X requires a CPU that support SSE2 (Streaming SIMD Extensions 2) and the AMD CPU you have does not. SIMD is Single Instruction, Multiple Data.

Upgrading your hardware is the only option at this point.

Not relay what I wanted to hear. According to the Xara website AMD should be fine.

Minimum System Requirements
Microsoft® Windows® XP | Vista® | 7
Intel® Celeron® or AMD® Athlon® processor 700MHz or newer
500 MB RAM, 300 MB hard disk space for program files

Peter did you not download and run the trial version?

That is how I found that error on my machines. Fortunately I have newer machines to fall back on.

Your AMD 2800 CPU does not meet the AMD Athlon 64 requirement.

No I never did grab the trial version, just bought it and waited for the CD to show up, saves on the painful download on this slow connection. In hindsight.......should have.

I see that from the link you posted, anything socket A doesn't support SSE2.
Looks like there is then a goof in the listed Minimum System Requirements .

I did put in a ticket with Xara, with the weekend be next week sometimes before I hear back I imagine.

I am not about to put a new system together right now, might have to "suffer" with pro 7 for a while longer.

I'd agree - that clearly implies that the 'classic' Athlon [series A socket] processors should work at 700MHz min. It's the samre on the Product box.

Based on the link maybe it should read 'Athlon 64 or newer'.....

I agree, the minimum system requirements should have been updated to indicate the newer versions of processors are needed.

According to the specs I should have room to spare, by the looks of it I might have to upgrade sooner then later, well that system is almost 9 years old, still runs like a champ, but I guess getting a bit on the archaic side.
