Default How to Print Published Web Site from Browser

I'm using Xara Designer Pro 7 on Windows XP Pro.

The website I'm working on has blue background with grey text.

How do I get the published website to print from browser, without the blue background? Esentially, I'd like the pictures and text to show up on white background.

    Many thanks for your help.

Right click the layer in the page and layer gallery and select layer properties then click the will not print check box.

Thank you for your quick response. It's great to see you have done tutorials, I'm going to check your links out.

Just checked and the "Background layer (will not print)" is already checked.

Forgive my lack of knowledge in this area too. My issue is both wanting no background color and having the text print black, rather than gray.

Here's a link to the site I'm working on.

    Again, thanks for helping.

If you mean not display background colour you can ctrl+drag no-colour to the pasteboard or the page.

Thanks again for your reply. We do want the background color to display. If you view the website in a browser and want to print the page, the issues is it prints the entire background of blue. And the text is not easy to read.

After reasearching, I found some people created a PDF document and placed a link "Click here for printable version" for folks to print info. That would resolve the issue. However, I wonder if the Xara website could be created or saved in a manner to display background color and not print background color.

Also, I noitce sites I created in Dreamweaver don't have this issue - printing the entire background color of a website from the IE browser.

If you click Print Preview on this link (site built in Dreamweaver), it seems like it will print without background:

If you click Print Preview on this link (site built in Xxara), it will print with background.

Any other thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Check you web browsers Print > Page Setup dialog. Most allow you to select printing the background color and.or images or to no print the background color and/or image.

Thank you, I did check both FireFox and Internet Explorer browser settings. By default, they are set to not print background.

This led me to determine that it's not actually the Xara webpage background that is printing. In Xara DP7, I used the "Snapshot Theme" website template from the Design Gallery. Then selected Color Scheme 6. In Xara, the item that is called "Page background" is actually a rectangle shape colored blue. With light grey text on top of that.

In my post above, if you view my links to the 2 separate web pages you'll see the issue. Website created in Dreamweaver has a page background color of blue and text is white. However, in print preview the default is no background or page backgorund color and black text. Making it suitable for print out reading. The website created in Xara is not technically showing bakground color which is light blue. However, is showing the rectangle page background dark blue, and the text is gray. This is not suitable for print out reading.

I'm sorry, but I do wonder if I'm posting in the right place or if I'm adequately describing the problem. If anyone has input to help resolver or knows a different thread I should post under, please let me know. Thank you SO MUCH for all the feedback.

You are in the right location. Any Web Development questions should be in this forum.

The issue you are seeing is due to Xara being a graphics application that has the ability to generate HTML code as an export option.

What the browser interprets to be the background is the 'pasteboard' of the drawing area when it has been given a color or texture. This causes the page background to be interpreted as a rectangular object which will be printed as it looks on screen.

Thank you so much. It's good to know I am posting in the right place. BTW, I am a long time very satisfied Xara customer.

Do you know if this is an issue that would be adressed in future development of Xara? My customer brought it to my attention, particulary all the ink used to print.

At this point it seems my best option is to create a printer friendly .PDF of each page with a link for printing.

Many thanks for the continued support here, you all are much appreciated.

Using a printer friendly .PDF or web page option should work well. Using an A4 page size will fit US, European, and Asian printers without anyone needing to resize the page settings.
