I could do this with DP7.1 but cannot seem to set it with XDPX. Any ideas?

Never give up. You will never fail, but you may find a lot of ways that don't work.
Hi Larry
when you say 'unable to set' what exactly do you mean?

Sorry. What I am trying to do is right click on an image and open with XDPX. So far I can only get it to open with DP7.1 and XDPX will not show up in the open with list.
Also has anyone noticed that the brush creation has changed?

thanks Larry
if after right click, you click 'choose default program' and browse to the xara designer pro x folder and click on the program that should 'wake it up'

Thank you handrawn, I did that several times but so far no luck.

oh and make sure you have 'always use the selected program to open this kind of file' ticked [I think it is by default]

does it actually open the program when you click on the program file in the program folder [not a shortcut or a saved file] ?
regarding brush creation - not noticed a change what's different?

With bitmap you may have to use the import 'Image' rather than the open cammand.

Yes it actually opens the program, however 7.1 always shows up. and will open the jpeg(for instance).
As far as brush creation. I tried that numerous times always gives me a problem. I can make a brush and give it a name but to edit it I now have to draw a new line and select the named brush, and some times it just gives me a blank box for the selection and no color at all and sometimes it will draw the brush and let me edit it that way. I thought maybe something I had installed had messed things up so I uninstalled and re-installed with the same result. What brought this up was trying to help frightful edit a brush and I had lots of problems.
