Default Pretty simple question to do with colour picker..

Say I want to use a nice red colour I have seen. e.g that "tg" above ;-) So I copy and paste the image into my document.

Then I select the colour dropper tool in the colour editor and move the cursor onto the document to where the "tg" is. The whole document turns black but I'm not sure why! How do I get that nice red colour into my pallete?

(I've been through the colour tutorials - but can't see what I'm doing wrong)

    Hi RedMist,

Before using the eye dropper to sample a colour create a small rectangle or circle to become the sampled colour.

You can use the eye dropper without importing the object to be sampled. Simply make Xtreme a small window in the foreground and position it so the browser's web page, or other application is behind and displays the object you want to sample.

Once you have the rectangle or circle the colour you want, click the tag icon within the Color Editor (Name a colour). Give the colour a name and it will appear on the color line.

Haha! It seems so easy now! Great tip about sampling outside the window too!

    Thank you so much!

    Hi,

Yes I had forgotten how to do this. So that post very useful. The big question therefore is why the flipping heck doesn't the colour picker documentation tell you this???!!!! How on earth are you meant to know that this is how it works. Am I missing something here but why would I automatically think t create a fore ground rectangle in order to make the colour picker function?

    Well I didn't know that !
I had assumed the picker would only pick from within Xara.

Even more fun if you have multiple screens, Xara on one screen and pick a pixel from another screen.
