    Default Publishing problem

I cannot publish my web site to a new hosting company.

It has uploaded to my ISP space many times.

I have been able to use FileZilla to upload from the files that are exported from Pro 7 to a directory to the new host and can read with the browser.

When publishing from Pro 7 I get the following error message:-

    General ftp error
No 5xx error code found on server response
200 type is now 8-bit binary
227 entering passive mode (192, xx etc.)

The support from the hosting company cannot see anything wrong with the settings that I have inserted and suggest it is the SW.

One of the more knowledgeable members may have a solution for this by changing one of the settings.

I know that this has come up from time to time and a while back there was a solution published. Check back.

Peter did you update the Publish Properties of your Xara document with the new host's ftp information, username, password, and if needed subfolder information?

Yes and provided the host support with the information that I had entered and it was correct.

They said 'I can definitely confirm it's something with the program, It's actually uploaded a folder without an issue, just the rest of the files aren't coming through.'

I have broadband connection and the host is based in Australia.

Some hosts have the FTP server set to accept only certain transfer types and don't always respond to auto settings from the client, so try this from Xara support for this exact same error.

    1. Close the program
    2. Click on windows start, type regedit and press your return key.
    3. From the registry editor, browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Xara\WebDesigner\7.1\Op tions\Publish
    4. You will see a value name on the right named FTPConnectionType. Double click this entry to modify it.
    5. set the value data to 1 and press okay.

Do not alter any other values within your registry.
Attempt to publish. If the problem continues then followed the steps above and change the value data to 0.

    Thanks
Obviously where it says \Xara\WebDesigner\7.1\ change to your version of Xara.

Peter if you do not already have the last update of XaReg you can click on the link in my signature to download the program.

Xara uses Auto Detect by default for an FTP connection. Close your Xara app and run XaReg. Any Xara Graphic and/or Web applications will be shown in the left pane. Select your version if you have more than one installed. Select the FTP tab and select Passive or Active in the Connection Type drop down list. Close XaReg then open your Xara app and try to publish to your new host. If you still cannot transfer the site with out error. Close the Xara app then select the connection type you did not use and then open the Xara app and try to publish to your new host.

Sometimes Auto Detect will not work with a host because they have selected to not broadcast a needed response as part of their security measures.

Thanks for help - tried passive and no go then active and it was successful.

I much appreciate the help given by people on this forum.

It is rarely that I can contribute and feel like a taker.

My web site is www.tumutbranchline.com and is being updated frequently.

    Cheers,
    Peter

Peter - Your pop up images are overly large for the average visitor.

For example, your first pop up image is in excess of 2MB. I saved the image and exported it from Xara with some compression and the new image file size is 46.5KB (176KB actuall size—TG does not accept files over 800 pixels wide). So you need to Optimize your pop up photos so your visitors hang around while they load.
