Keith are you placing the .8bf files in the plug-ins folder or are you placing a .zip file in that location?

fair point Bill
I don't know which version sledger used - I just tried with the legacy [ver 1.9] luce plugin, and got a result of sorts
on left simple bitmap
on right plugin applied [point light source] - you get a box round it, like you often do in xara..
Keith - not all photoshop plugins will work..

it won't say 'Downloaded PLugins' if that is a folder name Keith, it does not give folder names in that particular list, amico perry is the name of the plugin group to which luce belongs not a folder...

does seems to work on bitmaps [though you need to crop them after] - vectors.. well its a bitmap plugin so I wouldn't expect it to work, though some do be it said...

ok I've re-read the thread
if you are using the method that sledger showed in his video then as others have said the following path in not correct:
c:\Program Files (x86)\Xara\Xara-Photo_Graphic_Designer_7\Xara Picture Edtitor\PSplug-ins\Downloaded Plug-ins\
you do not want your luce plugin in the Xara Picture Editor tree - if that is where it is then that may well be your problem [do not worry about why there is reference to this in the manual, that is for specific cases]
make a folder call it ' my downloaded xara plugins' or whatever meaningful unique name you want - put your luce 8bf file in this folder, put the folder at c:\ and then use sledgers method to set it up - it should then work; if not then I give up
EDit - oh and remove it from the c:\Program Files (x86)\Xara\Xara-Photo_Graphic_Designer_7\Xara Picture Edtitor\PSplug-ins\Downloaded Plug-ins\ location, don't leave a copy there

Yes, I grabbed the latest release, v2.1 as I figured this would be the version the OP tried.
As you say, it's very important for people to understand that not all Adobe type filters are compatible and will work with a vector application.
The way I deal with filters such as these is to set my external bitmap editor as PS and use the filter from there. The result is then returned to Xara Designer.
