That's why I warned that I was oversimplifying! (Re the "shades".)
I am thinking that saving named colors is like saving a brush in Xara. You don't save to a brush folder, you save to a document. Then, to use the brush, you open that document. (I have made one brush in Xara, and I had a black outline on the shapes in it. When I drew with the brush, the black outlines showed, but if I released the stroke, the outlines disappeared. I got around this by doing a screen shot of the stroke before releasing it. Worked, but I had to get rid of the resulting white background before I could use the stroke. Of course, I had not read carefully enough, and didn't save the document with the new brush stroke. I'll know better next time!)
