Default How often to submit a sitemap on google?

How often is good or bad to submit your sitemap to google?

I know it's worth submitting it again after changes, but site i'm starting will update its news pages each week, is this too often ?

    Thanks,

    Grant

    Hi Grant

A sitemap is for the Pages of your site, so if you change the number of actual pages (*.html or *.htm pages), plus or minus then submit the sitemap each time you do this. Changing the content is not relevant to sitemaps.

Once the site is complete the content itself won't be changed that much, however the news pages will be updated as a new page will be created for each news story we publish. Old pages won't be deleted just new pages added as described. I will be splitting the website into a subfolder like: www.domain.co.uk/news - this way it can be updated as a news site with new pages always being added if you see what I mean...

    That make sense?

    Thanks,

    Grant

For your situation submit the sitemap each time you add a new news page. Just pne question, are you creating each page in xara then publishing it? If you are why embed a blog (blogger.com etc) using a place holder, it would make life a lot easier for you.

The main site is created in WD7 and almost finished now, once complete it won't change often. The News section is also done in WD7 and will be added to like news reports each week or so with new information relevant to the company, so will create a new page each month with news headers and full pages for the articles weekly.

The reason i wish to do it this way is that search engines will take into account that the website is updated regularly with relevant information and not just spammed rubbish, well thats the plan..

Updating the news section with pages will only take few minutes each week as within same template, and as I work for the company i can do it in my spare time.

So is once a week too much or perhaps once a month when 4-5 pages are added?

    Thanks,

    Grant

You can go ahead and submit each time you make a change, some people do this a couple of times a day apparently and it does not effect seo etc. Heres an article on google webmaster tools about sitemaps, you can also automate submitting the sitemap (see the instructions in the link)

    Hope that helps.
