    Default Extrusion melding

I thought that maybe some of you may find this interesting. I have been playing around with these techniques for what I am calling extrusion melding.

In DP7 you can use live copies with most transparencies to create an image with layers of extrusions. Opacity masks seem to be a little weird with this, as editing the extrusion with in the live copy seems to cause the opacity mask to go from being applied to only one of the group to being applied globally or to all of the group.

The chocolate biscuit example uses a simple cut out from a regular copy, which is layered on top.

I have included a .xar file you can pull apart and experiment with.

    Hi Frances.

    I downloaded your .xar file.
Had a look and it didn't seem as easy as you make it out!
I'll be honest and say that I didn't spend a lot of time looking at how you achieved the effect.
So, when I get a chance, I'm going to have to have another look!

Very cool. I really like your work, it's very creative. As I was going through your first file, I noticed that you created a clipped photo of the extrusion. I created the same effect by creating a shape of the desired area and then cloning the extrusion and using clipview. This created the same effect without having to use a bitmap in the image. I have attached your file with the clipview.

Using a clipview is a great idea Paul, and it works with the live copies to an extent if you rotate or change angles or bevels of your extrusions though you may need to make adjustments to your clipping shape

yes, the clipview is another one of those tools that no one says much about but is very powerful. In addition to holding a live effect, it also gives you the ability to feathery the work and keep everything vector. Sometimes I have problems printing artwork that is mixed vector and bitmap. The bitmaps do not hold up as well when you resize the image. tends to look bad when you print.
