Lets say I draw a dog in illustrator. I select it and create a symbol called DOG. Then I save the symbol in a user defined library.

I use the DOG symbol in several other files by going to the user defined symbol library and placing in each file.

Later on I open the DOG symbol in a new file, I modify it, then save it back out to my user defined library and over the existing DOG file.

If I go back to my other files, is there anyway for the DOG symbols in those files to be updated /swapped with revised version in the user defined library?

You would need to re-link the symbol each time you opened a different file. Try it your self and see as wouldn't take long to do.

OK, I didn't understand the all Symbols Pane options at first. Thanks
