yes it's possible, but may not be quite as easy.
This is the way I did it. Maybe someone has a better way.

Never give up. You will never fail, but you may find a lot of ways that don't work.

simple truth is - xara and fireworks do not work the same way - xara is an object oriented vector program; fireworks is not

spend a while looking at the movies that come with xara and get a feel for how is works - some things will probably seem easier and some not

    Hi maja.

When I first came across trying to create this effect, I too thought that there should be an easier way.
But, looking at how easy the programme is to use, this is a small price to pay. If at all.

What Larry has shown you is the way to do it.

It just looks complicated because (possibly) you may not know all the Xara tools.

Honestly, it's more complicated to explain, than to do.

This thread was asking a similar question.
    http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthre...-Shadow-Effect

I am attaching a .xar file (done in XDP6).

Of course, you have to know what the shortcuts are within Xara but I'm sure you will get the hang of it.

If not, ask the question and many will try to help.

    Another way:
Draw a rectangle larger than the shape you plan on drawing.
Draw your shape on top of the rectangle.
Select the shape and copy it to the clipboard (Ctrl+C)
Select the shape and rectangle and Arrange > subtract
Drag the shadow tool over the rectangular shape created in the previous step
Paste-in-Place the shape that is in the clipboard and move it behind the rectangular shape
Select both and Arrange > Apply Clipview

yes i followed your files and had luck; ok fine i could see now how may steps you need in xara for a inner shadow.

in fireworks it took me 10 seconds ( slicing included ) to make this image!

We have been asking for "inner shadow" in Xara for years and for some reason the developer team have never decided it is a priority. It's weird because just about every other mainstream graphics app. offers that feature. Oh well...

I'm not a fan of plug-ins when, with a little effort, you can save some money and achieve the same(ish) results from within Xara (with the added plus that you have learnt a new technique). I knew I had this lying around somewhere. I did it in April 2009 on Xtreme5:
