Nicely put Frances and what you describe works for any structure of people working together even within the smallest organisation.

Question: Would this 'WWF'-Forum be on Talkgraphics?
I could see a forum where trolls and alike could have their space.

For my part in the discussions taken during this rather heated time, especially if they have caused any hard feelings of any kind in anyone, I extend my heartfelt apologies.....and with that I also wish we don't go down the road of divisiveness which a free-for-all thread would surely cause.

It's well proven that fighting on any level just escalates into higher levels of fighting and side taking. This forum needs to be more adult than that....so....I totally agree with what Frances has said....that's what makes sense to me....and I definitely want to stay friends with everyone on this forum.....
    Ed......:-)

All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you.

On this issue I'm going to do a U turn. I'm not proud. One of my problems is I'm too idealistic. Ideally a ranting forum would be good to get rid of gripes, but I think Frances is right and the bad vibes wouldn't stay quarantined. Let the moderators control disruptive elements instead ... as they did before

My $0.02 - not needed for the reasons eloquently stated by the other posts in this thread.

My additional $0.02 - just the fact that you would consider it, and post it in this manner, is a great thing. Making it available for discussion in this format does a lot to make the forum feel less heavy handed.

    Thank you Gary.

Having a place where people can slug it out over escalating disagreements about the colour grass should be if it wasn’t already green, or the best time of day for it to rain, would be entertaining briefly, but it would inevitably lead to people taking their disagreements, which would rapidly become grudges, into other threads.
It OK to say that everyone else could then ignore that area and get on with discussing graphics matters, but we all know that it would be the first place that everyone would rush to watch the fight, if not to start one. It would be like being back at school with the Prefects locked in a stationary cupboard.
My vote is for a no holds barred pornography forum. You could call the pictures art and still stay roughly in the arena of graphics and photography.
Better still the forum could stay as it is and everyone could maintain some manners and consideration just as we are all expected to do in the real world; (or am I being a bit British in suggesting that?).

Gosh "disruptive elements". I think they are the people who express a view that is diifferent to your own. I suppose that "supportive elements" are the ones that agree with the home team and scream down the dissenters. I guess that it all depends which side of the town you happen to be in when the wall is built.

Masque had a cool idea, but then again we'd only whine about womens rights or something.

Language is always interesting - putting forward a differrent and constructive view attracts all kinds of labels - whiners, whingers, etc.

I'm not in favour of a separate "anything goes" forum and I'm really dissappointed to see it put forward as some kind of a solution to a problem of people not talking about the "right" thing. Talkgraphics has certainly become a mirror of humanity and it's not all good.

People are funny things they wander off topic they talk about one thing then divert onto another. It's what makes life interesting. Having a seperate forum won't stop that nor should it.

I don't know what happenned to the tolerance on the forum. We label people as anti-moderators if we don't want a list member driven out of town. We lecture people by raising banners. Now we want anything we might not approve of moved to the ghetto thinking that it stops the conversation taking place outside the ghetto. even if you live outside the ghetto, you'll need to visit just to make sure the people there aren't talking about you. I really didn't think the people at talkgraphics wanted "no holds barred". I like the sheriff to be around (even if he's not always right) and don't really want to have a mini "dodge city".

Gary, it's a spectacularly bad idea, in my opinion. I would have thought you'd be the last person to suggest it.

I’ve just had an idea over a bowl of cornflakes and a cup of tea about the ‘arguments forum’ which I’m sure you’ll all agree is pure genius.
Its based on an old Monty Python sketch in which you would go into an office, pay £5 to have a 10 minute argument.
On TG you would pay by credit or debit card to enter the ‘fight’ forum and you would get a length of time, depending on the payment you made, to disagree with someone to your heart’s content. The only rule, as with Monty Python is that you could not simply automatically gainsay your opponents view.
The millions of £($) raised by this new commercial fight club could be used to:
1.Fund TG and so remove the responsibility from Xara to do so
2.Pay the moderators a small monthly remuneration to compensate for the extra duties involved in attempting to police other threads to stop people arguing for free
3.Enable the site to donate large sums of cash to various governments to help repay the respective national debts we are being told about in-between the football matches and tennis (here anyway)

I can’t see this as bringing anything, other than great benefits, to the graphics community as a whole.
Its genius, I’m wasted drawing pictures.
    Derek

Do I come over that way Sorry if I do, I certainly don't think that way I have however seen Person A express an opinion, Person B say politely "Well, no, in my view...." and Person A immediately start jumping up and down shouting "Xara fanboys not letting me speak!" That's one form of disruptive element for instance. Everyone is entitled to their view and to express it. I've never, ever, tried to deny anyone that right here or in real life. I will express my opinion - if I have one - and admit when I am wrong or when people have persuaded me I'm wrong - as I've done in this very thread. Please don't misrepresent me.
