Is it normal for the computer to slow way down as soon as I apply 3D to some text? I have a pretty beefy PC running XP Pro. and this is happening to me.

You might have to explain 'beefy' in terms that we can distinguish
See this thread:

You could also let us know which security suite/AV type and version you are running?
I have an Intel Duo core, 3 Ghz processor with 1 Gig video card, 4 Gig RAM
I am running Rogers Internet Protection for antivirus provided by our ISP.
Thanks for that.
Are you using Xara Xtreme (If yes, I will move the thread to the Xara Xtreme forum) and are you applying 3D extrusion to a lot of text or just a single word?
Xtreme does bog down when extruding lot's of text, there is a limit of about 10-12 characters in my tests. If you need more than that, try breaking the sentence up into smaller sections before applying the extrusion.

as referred to in post #14 it can make a lot of difference if you are trying to extrude too many things at once
