A bit later than expected but the wait has been worth it (at least for me )
The Alpha version of 2.5 is (or will be in the few next hours) available to be downloaded. Even though it's an alpha, you can use it and familiarize yourself with the changes. It will be available at http://download.blender.org/release/Blender2.50alpha/ or on the official blender.org site
Quoting Ton Roosendall (Blender creator and Blender foundation Chairman) :
"Just don't forget it's a testing build, mostly aimed at Blender folks, to get a good reference for bug reporters and feedback on UI design and issues. On the other hand, it has almost two years of 2.5 development time accumulated in it, this is a great achievement and definitely something we can proudly celebrate to release!"
Documentation will be available shortly but you can read about the release logs at http://www.blender.org/development/r...s/blender-250/ .
Note that not all of the changes are documented yet...
If you want to get the latest builds ( development builds with the latest incredible features being developed) goto www.graphicall.org and select the type "BF-Blender Foundation" to get the official Blender SVN trunk.
Attached is the alpha splash screen. You can see also the new GUI behind.
